Fairfield Tourism Seeking Growth In Hotels-Motels

From Scott Jackson, News Director, 1570 KMCD Your Hometown Station

An overall positive 2008 in terms of tourism was had in Fairfield. Heading into 2009, ideas are being looked at to continue and build on that success with growth in the city's hotel and motel availability.

During his finalized year-end report to the Fairfield City Council on Monday, Convention and Visitors' Bureau Executive Director Rustin Lippincott stated ideas for ways of bringing in contractors to build more hotel-motel facilities in the area. Lippincott mentioned the need for more hotel and motel rooms coming from the hope of hosting events in Fairfield that would keep more out-of-town residents spending money in the community for a longer period.

"Multi-day events require the need for more rooms. It's something we've been talking with developers about," Lippincott told the city council on Monday. "We would certainly back any program that is out there that helps bring in hotel and motel projects."

One of the programs specifically mentioned by Lippincott was a partnership known as the 'Sweet Dreams' Development Project created through the AmericInn franchise. Lippincott also mentioned to the board the possibility of providing tax financing with a TIF agreement with hotel and motel developers to be brought into and begin work in Fairfield.

Howell Named Architect for Fairfield's AmericInn

From Emily Humble, News Director, 1570 KMCD Your Hometown Station

Truman Howell Architects and Associates has been named the lead architectural firm for Fairfield's new AmericInn Lodge and Suites to be built at the southern bypass exchange, announces David Thebodo, President of Sweet Dreams Development Company.

The Minnetonka, Minnesota firm has designed over 175 AmericInns across the nation.

"We've talked to several other architectural firms and many AmericInn owners in our quest for a high quality, competitive architectural firm," says Thebodo. "Truman Howell Architects and Associates will bring experience, economy of scale, and efficiency to this project. We are confident their expertise and track record will result in a high quality product for our community and an attractive bottom line for our investors," says Thebodo.

The AmericInn, a $5.5 million development, will be built on Route One at the southern entrance to the new bypass. The hotel, which will include up to 73 guest rooms, an indoor swimming pool, and spa, will also incorporate several environmentally sustainable features. Geothermal, solar voltaic, and solar hot water are among the green technologies planned. The hotel will be primarily built with nontoxic materials.

"Our firm is excited to be part of a project which will be one of the first lodging properties in the mid-price range to incorporate sustainable technology," says the firm's principal Truman Howell.

With over 25 years experience, Truman Howell Architects amd Associates is a leader in the hospitality industry, ranked 55th nationally by Hotel and Motel Management Magazine. Founder Truman Howell, AIA, NCARB, bring 42 years of experience in commercial building design. The firm also has clients in the food service, medical and retail industries.

"Truman Howell is able to take the basic AmericInn prototype and add unique elements to create distinctive buildings with a lot of curbside appeal," says Thebodo. "We are excited about what they can do for us in Fairfield."

The AmericInn will provide a much-needed infusion of additional hotel rooms to support Fairfield's growing tourism market. The national chain is a favorite among travelers for their homey, comfortable surroundings and is known as the quietest hotel in the industry. Thebodo says the AmericInn will also provide the community with an attractive venue for social gatherings and business meetings.

The development is a community-based project where "local owners will reap the benefits of our success," says Thebodo. Completion is scheduled for Spring 2009. Sweet Dreams Development Company, the Fairfield AmericInn's parent company, is in the final stages of compiling its local ownership group and there is still time to participate in the project. SVC Partners With Fairfield Hotel Developers

From Emily Humble, News Director, 1570 KMCD Your Hometown Station

Plans continue moving forward for a new hotel near the Fairfield bypass. A partnership has been created between Pale Moon Investments, Sweet Dreams Development Company and Schaus-Vorhies Contracting, Inc (SVC) for a 70-room AmericInn Lodging and Suites.

SVC will also serve as the General Contractor/Construction Manager to build the hotel, which will rest on half of the eight-acre building site on Highway 1, south of Fairfield. The remainder of the site will be available for other businesses, such as restaurants, convenience stores and retail.

"Schaus-Vorhies is very honored to be a component of this exciting business group," says Roger Vorhies of SVC. "We feel this is a great addition to the growing Fairfield community."

The facility will be a franchise design, but the owners group would like to incorporate as much "green building concepts" as the budget will allow. David Theobodo, of Sweet Dreams Development, says SVC is pricing out the project now, and the completion should be about the time of the bypass.

"Keeping a project like this local keeps the economic impact local, which is a good thing, and that was one of our goals," says John Kuster of Pale Moon Investments.
